Are you talking about Google? If so, there are some threads over in the the Google Forum talking about a similar effect: [webmasterworld.com...] As a less static site, I imagine where you sit in 'algorithmic space*' varies a lot, so you get bounced around. Your more static compitition stays where it is, for better or worse. *algorithmic space (tm).
