I would venture to guess that it's legit. There's a toll-free number listed on the Checkmate Settlement FAQ page. I didn't click the link in the email (which was in my bulk email folder as well), instead I went to directly to the Checkmate Settlement site. As I said, from the FAQs, it looks legit but who knows. I did not go as far as clicking on any of the PDF links as my FF PDF plugin is tempermental lately. It will be intereting to hear if anyone else uncovers more information.
