Most of the midwest states have lost factory jobs to countries overseas where either the living wage is so low that it's unbelieveable or they don't have to paya living wage. I personally think that in the next decade or so you will need to have a degree just to make a decent living. I think the blue collar individual in the US is endangered and I am not quite sure that is so terrible. It is just unfortunate that so many people are getting caught in the change over.
While there is plenty of work picking fruit or working at fast food, it doesn't pay near a living wage.
