But this below article leads me to believe that I was close (even dead on about using Lycos in one form or another for Cyworld stuff). In the least, cyworld or Lycos or whatever will be used as platform for their US penetration/launch.
IMO: forget the reporter's doubts... I say the USA should be prepared for Korea's bizarre (but cool and impressive) online community technologies.
<<< prepares to explain what cyworld is again to people. ;p ^^
Note, though, the article makes it seem like lycos and nate are not connected in anything but name anymore....but something about that is amiss. I am still looking into it. I'll let ya know.
Again, as far as I know,
SK Communications owns Nate, Lycos .co.kr, and Cyworld. So, right now, it seems most likely Terra Lycos doesn't have formal associations with Lycos Korea anymore or else we'd be seeing SK's name in the filings somewhere. Its too big a company (billions and billions) to not mention.
If so, Terra Lycos (Daum) will make competitive products based on Lycos Korea ideas/technologies to launch service in the US (and continue to compete in Korea).
Gotta love it.
