You can then start slowly moving your content over. It will be a hassle if your site is large, but worth it in the end as Jommla! is infinately customisable if you know a little php.
Joomla! is beased on a large mysql database and as such there are no actual pages. You should create a theme in the sytle of your exisiting site, working from the examples and the tutorials on the Joomla! website.
