all wonderful points! perhaps some things cannot be explained with one simple answer. i look at professional basketball players who entertain us and their salaries in awe. but we are also paying for advertising, seating, electricity, rental, etc. at the dentist's office i hope to get some sedation :) the bottom line is that a web developer is a valuable identity, especially one with knowledge and experience, and deserve pay according to the aforementioned, economics and product. never lowball yourself and your talent, but be fair to the consumer. after all, they support us.
