I've been defaulting to Bing for a couple of years, not thrilled with Bing's results but finding them much better than Google's. Since sometime in October or November I had noticed when I did pop over to Google out of frustration, the results were good like they had been years ago.
Well that's gone, since around the 13th or so. I'm getting very strange results on a lot of queries that should be terribly straightforward. Also, friends have shown me stuff like a query including the word "buy" that surfaces 1 or 0 transactional websites in the organic listings! That just blew my mind.
Something is definitely going on and it's not ALL seasonal. I do have one site where I'm seeing peaks and valleys with seasonal keyphrases, and nothing there strikes me as weird or wrong. But a lot of random queries I do as a searcher are bringing up results that are either badly mismatched or seem random.
I believe this means there's some kind of massive testing going on. Or else it's the worst update yet, but I can't believe anyone at Google is seeing what I'm seeing and thinking, "Searchers are going to love this!" :D
