One day about three weeks ago I noticed in my logs that a page on one of my sites was getting a flurry of traffic from Huffington Post, and found that someone had published an article there that contained a link to my page. That link sent my page more than 600 visitors on that first day, and is still sending a trickle of traffic even now.
The Huffington Post article was quickly re-published on at least a dozen other sites, and my page has gotten quite a lot of traffic from those copies as well.
What puzzles me is that within a few days Webmaster Tools Links to Your Site began showing backlinks from some of those re-published copies, but even now, after more than than three weeks, it still doesn't show the link from the original Huffington Post article.
Has anyone else ever seen this kind of situation, where Webmaster Tools shows backlinks from re-published copies but not from the original article? And does anyone know what it means, or if it has any significance?
