Perhaps this is a ploy to move people from free GA to paid GA, where they would then provide the information? I looked at their premium info, but don't see any call outs on it: [google.ca...]

Stupid Chrome developers. They could have SSL pass over the details, but were either directed not to, or were to lazy to code it that way.
Either way, this sucks.
