The closest thing to a widely observed pattern in the January updates thread [webmasterworld.com...] is this shift mentioned by menntarra_34 and confirmed by roughly 5 or 6 other members....

strange thing happened: in WMT my "not selected" pages dropped significantly: [i.imgur.com ]

The graph shows an extremely steep drop in "not selected" on Dec 30, 2012. Not yet sure what that might suggest.
