This is oldish news for me, but since I started returning 404s for Googlebot for image search and thus being deindexed and thwarting image hotlinkers, traffic to my site from Google has increased by around 28%, despite no more image traffic. Image thieves also seem to no longer rank. I tried earlier by disallowing images via robots.txt, but to no avail.

This belongs in the November thread, but December traffic has remained steady.
