I have been talking to a lot of webmasters who have been affected by the November 16 update. There are a couple of points -
1) The drop in traffic in most of them has been identical. The websites have lost close to 50 - 60% of the traffic since the update.
2) This is something I feel is very important - All the websites including mine are more than 5 years old. While we concentrated on Google's mantra of writing good content and the links and traffic will follow we missed out on scrappers. The older the site the more the content would be scrapped. Some of my articles have been copied hundreds of time over. Could it be that Google found so many identical copies of the content across the websites that it dropped the authority of the websites.
We are in the process of identifying scrapers and asking them to remove the content if not then disavowing them. I would be glad to share the results in the months to come.
Has anyone else tried this approach?
