I signed up with the offending host, then used my account to block access to all my site's pages, which took immediate effect.

Ahh, you must be talking about 0ne of those sites that scrapes your content and republishes, but feels that it's okay since you can sign up for an account to specifically block it url by url.

While I don't like that at all, it's more disappointing that Google couldn't just figure out how to ignore links from sites like that completely.
