I had planned to wait on the refresh, I'm just getting a little impatient

I can understand you're impatience, because the original rollout was in April, and the only "refresh' was in May. In my opinion the long delay is due to Google's realization that it didn't work as intended, and the amount of time and effort they're having to expend trying to fix it. But I doubt that they will ever be able to really fix it, which is why I suggested that they scrap it and start over from scratch.
