The page does not 404. IT simply doesnt show any images.

The images use relative links, which worked fine as long as you had
/filename.php

side by side with
/images/imagename.php

but now that the user-agent thinks you're in
/filename.php/

it goes looking for
/filename.php/images/imagename.php
