I have a friend who runs a celebrity quotes website and he asked me to analyze why his site is affected by the Panda update. His daily page views used to be around 5000 mark but dropped to 600 in the last one year.
I am pretty sure he is affected by the Panda update as he collects the quotes from news websites on the Internet. I guess the duplicate content made him vulnerable to the Panda update.
However, I couldn't convince him or even myself, if that is a problem. Quotes are said by people and all news sources publish them on their websites. So, how can google consider that as duplicate content?
His website publishes the quotes said by celebrities at one particular place so that they will be easily accessible to the users. It can be compared to the stock prices published by websites (of course, they have other news content along with the prices). All the websites publish the same prices, so that can't be duplicate content.
