Also there's what I consider to be Step #1 of any reputation management crisis. If the negative evaluation is true in any way at all - then own the problem first, fix it next, and then make a lot of noise about the fix. That not only is honorable, it can start such a positive buzz online that your rankings soar.
I've worked with a lot of reputation management situations. No matter what you do, you can't usually achieve a quick fix. It's a many month, even a many year process in most cases.
