I've launched a couple of new sites recently and they managed to rank and get traffic within a little over a month.

I have done the same with similar results. I am actually finding it a bit easier with new sites and my time spent on new sites has yielded much better results than my time spent on trying to figure out how to get older sites to return to previous levels.
