Just tried this myself on a penguinized site (survived all Panda iterations, traffic dropped like a rock on 4/24):

-amazon.com
-example.com
...

Every domain I've tried brings it back to #2. This is for a keyword which is irrellevant to Amazon or any of the other negative-match domain tests I've done. The usual "authority" domains have never ranked for this term.
