---- Ranking drop after influx of press?

Sand - 12:34 pm on Apr 20, 2012 (gmt 0)

I've been working really hard on a site for about six months now, and organic traffic has been growing steadily over time.

This week, I built a tool that got some really great press (including editorial links from the White House, various government departments, Forbes, and some other high authority domains).

Looking at my logs for this morning, I noticed that traffic from Google has dried up to a trickle since about 2:00 AM this morning. I still have site links for my domain, but I've dropped 1-2 pages for all the other searches that brought me traffic.

I'm trying to keep a level head and not panic, but it's definitely got my blood pressure up (so it goes). I've never had any GWT warnings or anything.

Is it possible that Google has dropped me a little bit while they sort out my influx of high authority links? Or is that not something that really happens anymore?
