The google results are a complete mess now. They're returning broad results when you want specific and specific results when you want broad.

For example...say our site was about 'insects' and we targeted that phrase. We do a great job of talking about all different types of 'insects'... Google on the other hand thinks if somebody does a search for 'insects', then an appropriate result would be a site exclusively about grasshoppers or ladybugs...which is nonsense. Absolutely not what the searcher was looking for...yet we're getting jumped by these overly-specialized sites as well as a couple of thin user generated sites (wikis) with probably only a page of unique content compared to our hundreds of pages of unique content :(
