I had my ranking ability for a single keyword snipped manually on a new(ish) site and when I asked for reconsideration, given that the keyword was my sites main topic and the fact I knew they had done it due to an obvious side effect which I pointed out looked rather silly, I knew they had fixed the issue before they told me. The traffic returned instantly.
