Good point Reseller, I know a lot of webmasters have been hard at work paying for, or encouraging, "likes" and other social signals. Perhaps this might be added to your list.
I don't think bringing attention to social media was the point of Mr. Cutt's comment. He's basically saying, "Don't get too attached to current SEO practices; they've changed in the past and they will continue to change." Social media was just his example of how things have changed.
