Anyone doing research and depending on Google is just off the mark, in my view. So this article is appropriate. But it's also part of what I see as a current European bias against Google and even against the US and capitalism altogether.
I thought this section about Google Scholar was a bit suspect:
Google Scholar's algorithm works on the basis of quantitative citation analysis. Scholars differ in that they rank citations according to their relative status and weight in their specific professional disciplines.
I'm pretty sure Google doesn't just quantify the number of citations in Google Scholar - they also weight citations just as they do in other types of search.
