Thanks, tedster, that's the sort of info I was looking for. The company I work for in my day job has a similar situation in terms of having at least two, possibly as many as 4 distinct target audiences we are currently trying to serve with only one domain. I think I'll see if I can convince them to launch some more domains and split the content up. We have two quite distinct product lines, and within those probably two different intents: informational and transactional. So I'm thinking 4 domains with lots of navigational interlinking may well be the way to go.
