to be fair to google, theres probably thousands and thousands and thousands of links to all those apple computer pages using the plural word 'apples'.
eg 'apples new laptop', 'apples new ipod'
if theres loads of links using that actual word, how can they not associate 'apples' with it.
sounds like one of the drawbacks of using backlink text to weight pages.
