I wouldn't sacrifice usability and convention for a "hoped for" SEO benefit when it comes to a "Home" link.

Leave the "Home" link alone, it's what people expect and it works.

I suspect that if a site can't make the home page rank without messing around with the "Home" link, it has bigger and more important problems to work on.
