Well, thankfully our sites only need to compete against a relatively few other sites - and not the whole ball of wax represented by the "% of all sites" number that we're shown in Webmaster Tools.

In the past few months I've been runnig both the Page Speed [code.google.com] and Y!Slow [developer.yahoo.com] tools against quite a few sites - and I've run into very few that are rated well at all. So my advice is to be an early adopter here - site speed has long been a secret weapon in web success, but now it's not so secret anymore.
