Alright if we're going to have a 'spill the beans thread' I'll play along for another post...

If you (or your host) has domain wildcards set to on all you have to do is link to the subdomain and not canonicalize your images.

They still sit on the same server in the same directory as they do now, but the browser opens extra connections to the 'other' domain...

* Make sure you if you do this you exclude your images from any canonicalization first (at the top of your file) if you use a negative-match, otherwise you'll be redirecting the browser back to your domain and adding time to the process.

I usually only serve from two total 'domains', because when I tested with 3 my browser visibly slowed down on cable and a high-end host, but test for yourself, because your results may vary...
