I would imagine load speed won't be their only ranking factor.

Load speed is important to me as I'm on a broadband connection that is considered very slow. There are far too many sites that take several seconds to load, often due to inefficient CMS and half a megabite of JavaScript, AJAX and whatever else. I press the back button a lot.

I don't consider Wikipedia or my own very long pages stuffed full of images slow to load.
