What nobody seems to mention is why some links in the SERPs are picked out for this treatments and others not. Is it random or can we read anything into this (and we have a limited window before all SERPs links move over to the new format)?

I did notice that when I'm logged into a Google account I'm more likely to see the new URL for my own sites. Also, when you have sitelinks, the sitelinks have the new URL but the link to the homepage doesn't.
