The way the sites are hacked makes its very difficult to detect for the average joe. On another note, I recently reverse engineered an entire spam network. At first glance, I thought they sold the links or the spammer owned each site. But the tactic was clever.... As said above, instead of defacing the sites as a HACK for glory, they imbedded text links hidden from the naked eye, only detected through source code. In this instance, the site owner could easily be banned by Google for hiding these links (even though they didn’t). Google's approach is guilty until proven innocent....
Are these hacks only detectable by a knowledgeable webmaster/siteowner?
