I did B) some years ago but if it happened to me tomorrow, I will follow the A) option.

I supose the pattern could be:
1.- Open the Adsense stats and see the fall
2.- Check the site integrity and test some results (site:domain.com and so on)
3.- Take a look here to see what's the algorythm change, the new penalities or what's wrong
4.- Do some financial calculations to see that I can/can't live with this level of traffic
5.- If I can survive, back to work. If I can't survive, back to work harder.
