I have followed this thread with interest and regulary refer to Webmaster World if I need advice, but this is the first time I have felt compelled to make a comment. I was #1 for a highly competitive keyword. It will be 3 weeks on Friday that my site began to fluctuate, first it droped to #2 then back to #1 for 2 days then has fluctated between 5 and 14 sometimes at the refresh of the page, as writing this I am 9 & 10. I have noticed the new top spots are also advertising for the keyword.

For the same keyword without the plural I am now #1 sometimes dropping to #2, I was not in the top 10 before and I have never made a play for this keyword as it is less of a search term.
