I've noticed that adding Adsense significanlty improved crawling of the site, especially during first weeks after adding the ads. The cache were much more recent than ever before. In some SEO strategies, fast, deep and frequent crawling is essential, so from a certain point of view adsense may help rankings, but not drastically of course.

Google claims adsense doesn't help rankings and they try to make it be this way. But as they cannot crawl everything every day, they have to use some priorities, and as adsense have to be relevant to page content, they must crawl them frequently enough.

But if page content doesn't get updated for a long time, even adsense won't help it to be crawled very often.
