I have started to gradually slip down the rankings over the past few months and noticed when I searched google with:

site:www.example.tld

that my index page was near the bottom of the results. The same is similar for a competitor of mine who is also suffering the same decline.

Interestingly enough is that Yahoo site explorer does exactly the same (returns index page near bottom) for both sites so there is obviously a fundamental problem and a solid reason why Google and Yahoo would do this. Anyone have any ideas.

I setup a 301 from the non www to the www at the start of this year so this is not the issue.
