It appears to fit perfectly with affiliate content being penalised but reading through this topic it seems unusual that only the one folder has been penalised.
I believe my site has just fallen foul of this penalty. However, it appears that only the directory with an affiliate store has been affected.
My site is split into 3 main parts - content sections with articles, a forum, and an affiliate store.
Both the content sections and the forum search terms are ranking exactly as they have been previously (and searching for "mysite.com" and "mysite.com/forum/" returns the site at #1)
All the product searches previously ranking are now 30 or lower without exception ( a search for "mysite.com/shop/" returns only 7 results with my site at #7.
