Maybe it's seeing this screeenshot that has changed my perception, but doesn't it look like Google has changed even the standard layout. It seems to me that the SERPs are more "squished" to the left.

Maybe it's just the screen I'm using now (this is the larger of two I use) but there seems to be more white space between the SERPS and advertisements. Perhaps this is setting up the new layout, perhaps I've just got warped perspective now.
