I had a website go from 60 backlinks to 4000+ for a month. It meant nothing -no extra traffic from Google. It's only where you appear in the SERPS that matters! There's some poor bloke in the depths of the Googleplex (in a side room just by the air conditioning units) whose job it is to update this meaningless count for webmasters. Google figured out long ago that the people who create websites are the enemy to good search results.
Not again. Don't you realise that Google knows its only webmasters that use the backlinks check. It's been 2 years since they meant anything and even then it depended on the on the pagerank trigger as to how many were in your count.
