I don't think anyone considers publishing a dmoz dump or a scraper site hard work. I'm just speaking for the people with legit sites, who don't do anything wrong, who were hit. There is no reason to assume that because google removed you that you were doing something wrong. That puts too much power in their hands -- the power of right and wrong, and of internet standards. but the internet was around long before G, and will be around long after. As their results, quality, and how they treat businesses decline, that end is likely to be sooner rather than later.
