Google got big by concentrating on search and refusing to become a portal, or anything other than a search engine

Google got big by building the best search engine, plain and simple. They can get bigger by building the best portal, best advertising platform, best X, and best Y.

Their personalized homepage is certainly not the best at this point, but they are moving in right direction IMHO.
