---- Penalty for Acquiring Links too Quickly

Hi

I’ve got a site that for the whole of last year had approximately 5 inbound links to the homepage. At the beginning of this year I started to acquire links for the site and now it has approximately 200. However the sites rankings have got considerably worse since I acquired these extra links. The site hasn’t dropped out completely but it’s fallen at least 100 places.

All the links that I have got I’ve checked over to make sure they rank themselves and that their not linked into any "bad neighborhoods". I’ve also varied the link text from each site so that I’m not linked to with one standard phrase.

I’m starting to think that I’ve gained too many links too quickly and that it’s tripped a filter with Google and so they’ve penalized the site.

I’ve removed quite a few of the links but I would be very interested to hear of other peoples experiences with this type of problem and any possible solutions they may have.

Cheers

Dan
