This has been happening for quite some time now(a year or so). Google automatically pooling in a few important sites on the topic wrt the surfers geographical location.

Also when use Google.co.uk there is a option called Search Pages from the UK in Google what does that mean? How Google recognises pages from the UK?

In this search goolge gives prefrences to:
1)pages hosted in the region(server based in uk)
2)Pages with region specific extension(co.uk for uk search)
3)the pages getting inbound links from the pages hosted in a specific region or having region specific extension.
