Go to google.de and search for auto or other words that are the same in German and English. You will mainly get German speaking sites showing up. The same querry on google.com shows English sites of course. Google tries to give the searcher what Google thinks they might be looking for.
This behaviour has been around for quite some time on other google versions too.
