My site has collected a number of new incoming links since the last update. My impression is that the update is the only time backlinks are updated. Now here is the part I am not clear about.

Will only new links added before the deep crawl make it into the coming update or does Google pick up some new links with the freshbot?

I'd be interested to other aspects of what the update does and doesn't do. It's obvious to me that the major resetting of where a site comes out in the serps with a given key word or phrase is set during the update. But there still seems to be minor changes during the month I assume from freshbot results. I'm thinking it is mostly from changes in keywords, words in the title and such.

As far as I can tell the update is the only time PR changes.

Does anyone have information that would give a clearer picture of what changes with the update and what can change during the rest of the month?
