Nonsense. He said no such thing. He said that a non-commercial search engine administered by a consortium of librarians, answerable to an international governing body was a good idea for the future. He didn't say he wanted to take over Google. Trying to put words in his mouth is nothing but a scaretactic, scareduck ;) (one the Salon writer does not seem to find beneath his own journalistic standards). I've discussed this issue with him privately, before the google-watch site went live. Whether or not you agree with his concerns, he's not arguing for the overthrow/takeover/destruction/coercion-by-evil-commie-overlords of anything or anyone at any time.
My favorite part of his rant is that Google should be a public utility. Translated, he means to take over operation of Google without giving them anything in exchange for this.
