caveman, it's important not to get carried away here. Most of the 'missing homepage' problems I've been shown have been due to Florida-style penalties. That is an algo thing, and in those cases the pages are in Google, but ranked much lower than before.

What feelfree describes is different, there was a Google bug. I won't go on yet again about search engines infering more than they should according to HTTP, but that was the root of the problem.
