I have personal examples where I have link text for "name widget" - resulting serp=1, but for "name" only, nowhere to be found. Then I add in further "name" links and I get to SERP=1.

Better to have the exact phrase that someone is searching for you for, or a truncated version. While a longer link may help, it will not be as powerful as a shorter link.

I have many recip link partners that have 10+ word links on my site - they are missing out big time. They need this message - but they don't have ears to hear. I can't be bothered trying to second guess what they want to be top for.
