From an SEO perspective that does not really help much, as the overwhelming majority of users will not use it. My own biggest problem is with abbreviations, not synonyms. Users often include the state in their search, either spelled in full or abbreviated (about half do each). Also about half search for "mount widget", while the other half searches for "mt. widget".
