I have two sites that I optimized a little over a year ago and they are is still ranking number one using the rules, and a few of my own personal tricks. These due fall into the lower end of competitive markets. 14,800 returns for one and 5,790 for the other. In either case I am only dealing with three to four other sites that are really on there SEO toes. So take this for what it is worth.

As far as long term goes I have been very pleased. But, it really depends on what you mean by long term, and the competition - as stated by rcjordan
